Cheatham Named Birdland Community Hero by Baltimore Orioles

James Moshers'own Dr. Marvin "Doc"Cheatham has been named a Birdland Community Hero By the Baltimore Orioles.  The ceremony to honor "Doc"was held on Friday September 16th during a game against the Tampa Rays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

"Doc"Cheatham is a fine civil rights activist and was a key organizer in the AFRO's recently concluded Clean/Green Block program. Under his direction, ARCO, a sponsor for the James Mosher's Girls Travel Softball Team, The Batting Babes, organized into cleaning crews and went to work making the communities in Rosemont, Sandtown-Winchester and Harlem Park communities a better place to live, work and play.  "Doc"is also the C. E. O. of the Matthew Henson Community Development Corporation.

According to a statement from the Orioles, Cheatham “is being recognized for assisting more than 7,000 children and their families in attending Orioles baseball games since 2005 through the Orioles REACH Gameday Experience program, as well as his overall contributions to the Baltimore community. Dr. Cheatham is also the founder of the Men’s Blue Suit Health Awareness weekend and the annual Men’s Reading in Baltimore City Public Elementary Schools, and he has served as the Baltimore City president for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Action Network, and the City’s Election Board.”

In addition to all of the above, “Doc” is also the Community Relations Officer of James Mosher Baseball where he sponsors an instructional league baseball team, The Birmingham Barons.  Finally, “Doc” played in the league when in was founded in 1960.  He is currently teaching pitching skills to players in the older divisions here in our league.

“I am very humbled, blessed and highly favored to be receiving a Birdland Community Heroes recognition,” Cheatham said in a statement.

Congratulations “Doc” you are one of James Mosher’s finest in every way.
